Moore County, NC Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Section 8-181 opens Subdivision II of the Solid Waste Container Ordinance, first adopted October 5, 1989, and sets the basic terms for who may use Moore County's container sites and when. The sites are limited to county citizens dropping off residential waste, are open only during posted operating hours, and are off-limits to contract solid waste carriers and privately hired haulers, who must instead deliver construction and demolition debris to the county landfill and other solid waste to the transfer station unless they haul it outside the county entirely.

The adjoining sections in the same division add behavior rules for anyone using a site: Sec. 00 reward for the arrest and conviction of anyone who burns one; Sec. 8-184 makes it unlawful to remove any item from a container, climb on or inside one, or damage one, banning scavenging outright; Sec. 8-185 bars loitering or congregating on site property and authorizes towing any unattended vehicle at the owner's expense; and Sec. 8-186 requires waste to go in the container, not around it. Sec. 8-182 additionally lists materials the sites will not accept at all, including oil, poisons, chemicals, tires and yard waste. Together these sections, enforced by the Moore County Solid Waste Department, govern the drop-off experience for the unincorporated county's residents.
