Hamilton, NJ Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

Article IV of Chapter 420, adopted November 1, 1994 by Ordinance No. 94-050, governs roll-off dumpsters on public property. A. 27:5I-1 et seq. This means a contractor or resident cannot simply drop a construction dumpster at the curb or in a municipal lot without first clearing it with Police; the ordinance ties local enforcement directly to the state law governing roll-off containers rather than setting its own separate size or duration limits. Section 420-47 gives the Division of Police authority to have any dumpster placed in violation removed, and to recover the cost of that removal from the owner.

A. 27:5I-1(b), so a violator can face both a towing/removal bill from the Township and the separate statutory fine. The ordinance does not distinguish between residential and commercial placements, so the authorization requirement applies broadly to any roll-off unit left on Township right-of-way or public property, whether it holds construction debris, moving refuse or landscaping waste.
