Apple Valley, MN Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Holiday handling in Apple Valley sits in the duties of licensed collectors, § 50.04(B) of the Apple Valley Code of Ordinances, adopted by the Apple Valley City Council. The section names no specific holidays and prints no one-day-delay formula. It works through two exceptions to the normal weekday schedule.

The first is in (B)(1)(c). Individual residential collection of refuse, recyclables or yard waste can be made only between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Operations during those hours can also be conducted on Saturdays, to accommodate recognized national holidays or a special pick-up as defined in the chapter. The same subsection requires that customers be reasonably notified of the specific day for the collection of their refuse, recyclables and yard waste, and that the licensee collect the materials within those time periods.

The second is in (B)(1)(n). Each daily residential hauling zone has permitted collection days, and it is unlawful for a collector vehicle to collect garbage, refuse, yard waste or recyclables in a zone on any other day, except to collect a missed pickup, special pickup or when an observed holiday falls within that week. A parallel sentence bars collector vehicles from operating on any street other than an arterial or collector street within a zone on a non-permitted day, with the same three exceptions.

The weekly baseline that holidays interrupt is also printed. Under (B)(1)(g), each licensed collector must provide individual residential customers with weekly collection of garbage and other refuse, yard waste, and recyclables, subject to the daily residential hauling zone restrictions, and recyclables collection must be on the same day as garbage collection but can occur at a different time within that day. A licensed hauler can collect recyclables bi-weekly if it provides single-sort recycling and a close fitting covered container of not less than 30 gallon capacity.
