Charlotte, NC Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Sec. 10-26(d) of the Charlotte City Code hands the holiday calendar to the department head: collection schedules are determined by the department head and can be altered to observe holidays or for emergency situations. The code names no holiday and no make-up day. Sec. 10-1 defines solid waste services as the city's department responsible for collecting garbage, recyclables, yard waste and bulky items from residential units. That department publishes the dates, and its 2026 Holiday Collection Schedule on charlottenc.gov is the document quoted on this page. It covers residential collection and describes its changes as serving all residents. It does not define a service area.

Thanksgiving: the city is closed Thursday, Nov. 26, 2026, and there is no collection. Thursday and Friday routes run on a one-day delay, and Friday collections occur on Saturday, Nov. 28.

Christmas: the city is closed Friday, Dec. 25, 2026, with no collection. Friday routes run one day late and are collected Saturday, Dec. 26. The page names only Friday routes for Christmas week.

Under the heading "What's Staying the Same," the city says Thanksgiving and Christmas will stay on a one-day delay. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day changed in 2026: the city is closed Monday, crews start Monday and Tuesday routes on Tuesday and continue through the week, collection runs Tuesday through Friday, there is no Saturday collection, and no yard waste is collected that week. The page prints the no-yard-waste line only for those three weeks, so it is silent on yard waste in Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks. For MLK Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day weeks only, the city tells residents to set carts out on the normal collection day, leave them out until collected, and call 311 or 704.336.7600 if collection has not occurred within 48 hours of the normal scheduled collection day. The page prints no such tips for Thanksgiving or Christmas week.

The other holidays the city observes in 2026 keep normal residential service, with no service disruptions, collection delays or schedule changes during those weeks. Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, is one of them.
