Summary

Collier County pauses curbside collection on only three days a year: Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. There are no make-up days, so garbage, recycling, bulky items and yard waste wait for your next scheduled day. This covers unincorporated Collier County.

These county ordinances apply to unincorporated areas of Collier County. Incorporated cities within the county may have their own rules that take precedence over county-level regulations.

Curbside Collection Only Paused 3 Days a Year There will be no collection on the following holidays: ... Fourth of July ... Thanksgiving Day ... Christmas Day ... There are no make-up days. If your collection falls on one of these holidays, your garbage, recycling, bulky items and yard waste will be collection on your next scheduled day.

Full Breakdown

The County's own Residential Collections Services page carries a Holiday Collection Schedule headed "Curbside Collection Only Paused 3 Days a Year." The three listed holidays are Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. For the coming season, that means Thanksgiving Thursday, November 26, 2026 and Christmas Friday, December 25, 2026 are collection-free days. The page prints no year and no dates, so it works as a standing rule rather than a year-by-year calendar; the calendar dates above come from the holidays themselves, not from a printed schedule. New Year's Day (Friday, January 1, 2027) does not appear on the County's list, and the page announces no pause for it.

The page is blunt about what happens next: "There are no make-up days." If your regular day lands on one of the three holidays, your garbage, recycling, bulky items and yard waste are picked up on your next scheduled day. The page words it as "will be collection on your next scheduled day," a typo in the County's text, and the meaning is clear. Nothing slides by a day and nothing is added on Saturday, so set out only for the next regular day rather than waiting for a catch-up truck.

The Collier County Code backs this up. Section 118-104(B) provides that collection service is provided by the Contractor Monday through Saturday, except Holidays, and that the Contractor is not required to collect on Holidays or during a local emergency declared by the Board. Section 118-104(B) also says that when a Holiday falls on a Customer's collection day, the next collection for that Customer takes place no later than the next regular collection day. Section 118-86 defines Holiday as Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and any other day designated by the Board of County Commissioners, so the Board can add a day beyond the three on the web page. The same subsection says that after a Federal or State Disaster Declaration or a Declared State of Emergency, the collection services in the ordinance can be revoked, suspended or altered, which matters on the Gulf coast in hurricane season.

This applies to the unincorporated area, which includes Golden Gate, Immokalee, Naples Manor, East Naples and Golden Gate Estates. Naples, Marco Island and Everglades City are incorporated and run their own collection programs.

Violations & Fines

The holiday pause is a service rule, not a penalty rule, so skipping a pickup on a holiday is not a violation by the contractor. Violations of the solid waste ordinance itself, such as setting out waste improperly, are prosecuted and punished as provided by F.S. § 125.69 under Sec. 118-108. Each day a violation continues is a separate offense, and the Board can also sue to restrain or enjoin a violation before the Special Magistrate or in the Circuit Court of Collier County.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there trash pickup on Thanksgiving in Collier County?
No. Thanksgiving Day is one of three holidays with no curbside collection, and this year it falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026. If your regular day is that Thursday, the County page says your garbage, recycling, bulky items and yard waste are collected on your next scheduled day. There is no make-up day.
What about Christmas Day and New Year's Day?
Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2026, is a no-collection holiday. New Year's Day, Friday, January 1, 2027, is not on the County's list of three holidays, and the page announces no pause for it. A Christmas Friday route runs on your next scheduled day instead.
Does the County run make-up pickup after a holiday?
No. The County states that there are no make-up days. A route that falls on Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day is collected on the next scheduled day. Code Sec. 118-104(B) sets the outer limit: the next collection takes place no later than the next regular collection day for the Customer.
Can the County add other holidays or suspend service?
Yes. Sec. 118-86 defines Holiday to include any other day designated by the Board of County Commissioners. Sec. 118-104(B) also relieves the Contractor of collecting during a local emergency declared by the Board, and collection services can be revoked, suspended or altered after a Federal or State Disaster Declaration.
Does this apply in Naples or Marco Island?
No. The schedule and Chapter 118 govern unincorporated Collier County, including Golden Gate, Immokalee, Naples Manor, East Naples and Golden Gate Estates. Naples, Marco Island and Everglades City are separate municipalities with their own solid waste arrangements, so use the city's own schedule there.
