Collier County recycles paper, cardboard, glass, plastics #1-7, aluminum and ferrous metal. Residential customers set recyclables out in a recycling roll cart at the curb. Non-residential and multi-family properties must provide recycling containers and recycle their primary recyclable materials.
Sec. 118-136 designates recyclable materials as paper, cardboard, glass, plastic (numbers 1 through 7), aluminum and ferrous metal. Residential program recyclables must be set out in a recycling roll cart (recycling bins allowed in approved areas); cardboard must be flattened to fit or, if stacked outside the cart, cut to a maximum 3 ft by 3 ft (Sec. 118-104.C.4). For non-residential property, Sec. 118-137 requires each owner to provide recyclable-materials containers and each generator to recycle all its primary recyclable materials, and prohibits placing solid or hazardous waste in a recycling container. Multi-family owners must provide recycling containers, signage and twice-yearly education (Sec. 118-138).
Recycling program violations are inspected and enforced under Sec. 118-152 and prosecuted under FS 125.69 (Sec. 118-108). Disposing of separated recyclables as trash, or contaminating a recycling container with solid or hazardous waste, is prohibited.
