Islip, NY Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

The Town of Islip does not write a holiday collection clause into its code. Instead, Code of the Town of Islip § 21-4B gives the Commissioner authority to designate the days on which recyclables and other components of the residential waste stream are placed out for collection by the Town or its designated agents. The Town then publishes those days on its annual mailer, the 2026 Recycling and Events calendar for the WRAP recycling program.

That calendar carries one holiday rule, printed in the legend: collections falling on a marked holiday are cancelled, and sanitation services are not provided until your next regularly scheduled collection day. There is no printed makeup day and no printed shift of the whole week. The calendar grid marks five holidays with an X: January 1, May 25, September 7, November 26 and December 25, 2026. The marks are symbols on the grid rather than printed text, so the dates are read from the calendar layout. For the two holidays most residents search for, that means Thanksgiving Thursday, November 26, 2026 and Christmas Friday, December 25, 2026 are cancelled collection days.

The set-out rule never changes around a holiday. All garbage and recyclables must be placed to the curb prior to 6:00 A.M. on your collection day. The same panel lists the 2026 special dates: Fall Unlimited Yard Waste runs October 26 to December 19, with each household told to refer to its seasonal mailing card for its schedule, and the Multi-Purpose Recycling Facility at 1155 Lincoln Ave., Holbrook takes free non-commercial drop-off of motor oil, e-waste and household hazardous waste from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Bulk metal and e-waste are collected every Wednesday, and bulk non-metal is collected on the last household collection day of the week, with a limit of 3 items.

The calendar covers 2026 only. It marks no 2027 holidays, so New Year's Day 2027 is not addressed by this document. The Town also prints that dates are subject to change and points residents to www.islipny.gov, so check that site before a holiday week. This rule governs Town residential collection under Chapter 21. Commercial providers fall under separate rules, and the incorporated villages inside Islip's borders run their own services.
