Huntington, NY Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Town Code § 117-21(A)(3) doubles the normal set-out limit whenever a scheduled trash day is cancelled because of a holiday: a residential owner, tenant or occupant may place up to twelve receptacles or bags of Household Garbage for the next scheduled collection, instead of the six allowed under the ordinary rule in § 117-21(A)(2). The allowance covers Household Garbage only; Residential Yard Waste and Bulk Items are excluded and still follow their own separate limits under § 117-21(A)(5) and (A)(6). Section 117-22(A) is the companion rule that creates the cancelled day this allowance is designed to cover: the Town makes no collection on Sundays or on holidays when its facilities are closed.

The Town's annual Trash and Recycling Calendar, mailed to residential dwellings and posted on the Town website, lists which collection days shift for holidays and confirms the makeup date. the evening before the makeup collection and must be removed by noon the day after, per § 117-21(A)(1). Placing waste that was not generated on the property remains a violation regardless of the holiday allowance.
