Huntington, NY Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Town Code § 117-21(A)(5) requires Residential Yard Waste to be kept completely separate from other solid waste at the curb; commingling yard waste with household garbage is unlawful. Yard waste must go out in uncovered receptacles or plastic bags, with tree branches limited to protruding no more than twelve inches above the container's rim, or otherwise bundled and tied into bundles measuring no more than two feet by two feet by four feet and weighing no more than fifty pounds. No more than ten receptacles, bags or bundles of Residential Yard Waste may be placed out for any single collection; anything over the ten-item limit has to be stored behind the front line of the main dwelling until the next scheduled pickup.

The chapter's definitions section pegs Residential Yard Waste to plant debris, garden waste, leaves, trimmings and prunings from regular seasonal maintenance, and specifically excludes grass, dirt, rocks, mulch, woodchips, rootballs, and tree limbs, trunks, stumps or branches wider than five inches in diameter, so heavier land-clearing debris does not qualify for curbside collection under this limit. -to-noon curbside window that governs household garbage under § 117-21(A)(1) applies to yard waste set-outs as well.
