L. No. 15-2024. Subsection A states that no tower shall charge more than those maximums for a vehicle picked up within the Town and towed to a place within the Town. The schedule at § 51-16D reads: $200 to tow a vehicle of not more than three tons from the nonaccident roster, $300 for the same vehicle from the accident roster, $500 and $750 respectively for vehicles between four and nine tons, $75 per half hour for winching, $250 in labor to right an overturned vehicle up to three tons and $550 for one between four and nine tons, storage inside or outside capped at $75 per day, scene cleanup at $75 per half hour for a maximum of one hour, oil absorbent reimbursed at $10 per 10 pounds, a yard fee of no more than $100, and recovery at $75 per half hour up to three tons or $250 per half hour between four and nine tons.

The 2024 amendment also defined the billable services, so a yard fee cannot be charged if the vehicle stays on the tow truck, and storage runs from the day the vehicle reaches the depot through the day it is released. Vehicles of 10 tons or more fall outside the caps under § 51-16E, but the tower must be able to substantiate heavy-duty recovery and cleanup charges to any Town official with photographs of the original scene and itemized labor, personnel and equipment records. Islip has no town police department, so the rotation is run by the interested Precinct Commander of the Suffolk County Police Department, who works three geographic sections of the Town, North, South and East, each with its own accident and nonaccident roster, plus a Town-wide heavy-duty roster certified by the Town Clerk (§ 51-12).

An owner is not stuck with the next name on the list: § 51-18A lets the driver name a specific tower to the officer at the scene by name or telephone number.
