Islip, NY Parking Rules: Street Parking Limits (2026)

The Town of Islip regulates on-street parking under Chapter TC3 of its Traffic Code. Section TC3-2 requires that wherever a space is marked off on the surface of any street, highway or public parking lot, every vehicle parked there be parked within the markings designating such space. Section TC3-3 designates the restricted locations listed in Schedule J as 'no parking,' 'limited parking,' 'no standing,' 'no stopping,' 'bus stops,' 'taxi stands,' 'metered parking' and 'angle parking,' each carrying the restriction described in that schedule. Section TC3-4 (added 6-10-2025) prohibits parking on any sidewalk or on the right-of-way between the pavement edge and the sidewalk in the unincorporated Town. The Town's authority to adopt these rules flows from New York Vehicle and Traffic Law (VAT) Article 41, Section 1660(a)(18), which lets a town board 'prohibit, restrict or limit the stopping, standing or parking of vehicles.' The underlying statewide rule of the road is VAT Section 1200, which makes it unlawful to stop, stand or park in violation of any article prohibition, local ordinance, or official sign.
