Mobile, AL Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

Mobile, Alabama does not write its holiday collection calendar into the City Code. Section 25-3(b) of the Mobile City Code says the pickup schedule for household garbage and household trash is fixed under guidelines and procedures implemented by the department of public services, and any change must be made public a minimum of two (2) weeks before it takes effect. Section 25-3(c) adds that changes caused by emergency or natural disaster are published on the city website. The dated holiday table therefore comes from the City of Mobile Public Works Sanitation Holiday Schedule page, which opens by stating that the City of Mobile will not pick up garbage or trash on the listed holidays.

Thanksgiving week: Thursday, November 26, 2026 is CLOSED for both garbage (brown carts) and trash (yard debris), with a makeup day for Thursday's routes on Saturday, November 28. Friday, November 27 is listed as running Friday's routes for both services. Christmas: Thursday, December 24 shows normal routes for garbage and trash. Friday, December 25 is CLOSED, with a makeup day for Friday's routes on Saturday, December 26. The three recycling centers (Pinehill Dr., Museum Dr., Dauphin Island Pkwy.) are listed as CLOSED on all four of those dates, including Christmas Eve and the Friday after Thanksgiving.

The rest of the 2026 table follows the same pattern. New Year's Day, Thursday, January 1, 2026, closed garbage and trash with a Saturday, January 3 makeup. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, January 19, closed garbage, with a trash makeup on Saturday, January 24. Good Friday, April 3, kept normal routes, and Easter Sunday, April 5, is listed CLOSED. Memorial Day, May 25, closed garbage, with a trash makeup on Saturday, May 30. Juneteenth, Friday, June 19, closed both services with a Saturday, June 20 makeup. Independence Day, Friday, July 3, kept normal routes while the recycling centers close on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. Labor Day, September 7, closed garbage and trash with no makeup day for trash. Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11, kept normal routes, with the recycling centers closed.

The weekly rhythm underneath is set by the code. Section 25-5(a) puts household garbage pickup at once per week based on the household address, and section 25-6(a) puts household trash on every other week, adding that holidays can reduce or change the trash schedule and pointing residents to the city website for the holiday schedule. The posted table lists New Year's Day 2026 only. As retrieved on October 6, 2026, it states no date or shift for Friday, January 1, 2027, so no rule for that day is published yet.
