Burke County, NC Trash & Recycling: Illegal Dumping (2026)

Section 58-129, in article III of chapter 58's solid waste rules, targets a specific dumping method: throwing, sweeping or disposing of waste generated by a household, yard or business into drainage ditches, roadways, roadway medians, manholes or other places detrimental to the general environment. The section requires that waste instead be disposed of by the means chapter 58 already specifies elsewhere, which includes placing acceptable household waste directly into a county solid waste container as section 58-66 requires, using an authorized private collection agency, hauling waste by private conveyance to the landfill, or depositing it in a county bulk container under the source and composition restrictions in sections 58-62, 58-63 and 58-68.
