2, "Mandatory Organic Waste and Disposal Reduction Regulations," adopted by Ordinance 22-01 effective April 13, 2022, implements the state's Short-Lived Climate Pollutant Reduction Act (SB 1383). 03 sets the residential rule: generators must subscribe to the City's collection services and "participate in the City's organic waste collection service(s) by placing designated materials in designated containers," sorting source-separated green container organic waste, including food waste, into the green container, recyclables into the blue container, and everything else into the gray container. The section bars putting gray-container waste into the green or blue containers and vice versa, meaning cross-contamination in either direction is out of compliance.
