Bannock County, ID Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Bannock County Code Section 8.08.140 gives the director of the solid waste department authority to designate the location where refuse must be placed for collection. If a chosen collection point forces the collection vehicle to enter or cross private property or a private driveway, the director can require the resident to move the point to avoid that entry. Section 8.08.170 then sets the physical placement standard: all garbage, refuse and rubbish, except ashes, from a private residence or other building must go into approved sanitary containers placed at or near the street line so it can be easily seen by the crew.

The same section adds several specific bans: oil drums, unauthorized containers and incinerators will not be emptied and are not allowed in alleys; oil drums, washtubs, garbage cans and similar containers cannot be used for ashes, and any ashes set out for collection must be cold and free of live coals or other ignitable material; no sanitary container may sit within a street or alley right-of-way or other public ground. Finally, every property owner or tenant in the county is held responsible for keeping clean one-half of the roadway adjacent to their property, tying pickup placement rules directly to a maintenance duty on the frontage itself.
