Wake County Code §50.04 requires every property owner, occupant, or tenant to remove solid waste at least once per week. Wake County does not run curbside pickup itself; service in unincorporated areas is provided by private haulers licensed under §50.05.
Wake County operates the county solid-waste system through Multi-Material Recycling Facilities and a transfer station, not curbside collection. Each city (Raleigh, Cary, Apex, etc.) runs its own curbside pickup. For unincorporated Wake County residents, weekly pickup must be arranged with a private hauler who holds a Solid Waste Hauler's Privilege License under §50.05. Garbage must be stored in durable, rust-resistant, watertight, fly-tight containers. Yard waste, white goods (appliances), used oil, scrap tires, and lead-acid batteries cannot go in regular trash and must be taken to county Convenience Centers or recycled separately under state and county rules.
