GFL Environmental collects residential trash weekly for all single-family-through-four-family properties inside Peoria city limits. Recycling is collected every other week per a Calendar A / Calendar B route map maintained by the City. Yard waste is collected weekly the same day as trash from the week of April 6 through the week of December 7 annually. Set-out window: as early as 3:00 p.m. day before; out by 6:00 a.m. on collection day. Collection runs 6:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Carts must be removed within 24 hours after pickup.
Peoria's curbside program is structured as a single municipal contract with GFL Environmental (309-688-0760), which provides one 95-gallon trash cart and one 95-gallon single-stream recycling cart to each eligible address at no charge. Additional recycling carts are available on request. Holiday delays push collection one day if the holiday (New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas) falls on or before the resident's normal collection day in that week. The annual refuse bill (paid to the City through Utility Billing) includes trash, recycling, yard waste, bulky waste (no item limit), and household hazardous waste drop-off access. The collection schedule map on peoriagov.org/619 is the authoritative tool for determining route day and recycling calendar. Multi-family properties of 5+ units are served by private hauler contracts and are not part of the City/GFL program. The Illinois Solid Waste Planning and Recycling Act (415 ILCS 15) requires county-level solid waste plans (Peoria County maintains one), and IEPA Title 35 Subtitle G regulates landfill operations including the GFL-operated landfill receiving Peoria's waste. Set-out rules are enforced by Peoria Code Enforcement as a property-maintenance matter under the 2018 IPMC. Missed pickups should be reported through the City's online missed-pickup form within 48 hours.
