Bellaire provides single-stream curbside recycling collection for all residential properties. Accepted recyclables include paper, cardboard, glass, plastics #1-5 and #7, and metal cans. Recycling bins are provided by the city's solid waste contractor. Contamination of recycling with non-recyclable materials may cause the bin to be rejected.
Bellaire offers single-stream recycling where all accepted recyclables go in one bin. The recycling bin is provided by the city's solid waste contractor. Accepted materials include newspaper, magazines, office paper, cardboard (flattened), glass bottles and jars, plastic containers #1 through #5 and #7, aluminum cans, tin and steel cans. Materials should be clean and dry. Do not bag recyclables β place them loose in the bin. Items not accepted include plastic bags, Styrofoam, food-contaminated paper, ceramics, mirrors, window glass, and hazardous containers. Contaminated recycling bins may be tagged and left uncollected. Residents are encouraged to rinse food containers before recycling. Cardboard boxes should be flattened to maximize bin space. Recycling collection occurs on a separate day from trash pickup. The city promotes recycling participation as part of its environmental commitment. Contact Public Works at (713) 662-8160 for recycling schedules and to report missed collections.
Contaminated recycling bins may be tagged with a notice and left uncollected. Repeated contamination may result in educational outreach or suspension of recycling service. Placing hazardous materials in recycling bins is prohibited.
