Haltom City provides single-stream curbside recycling every other week. Accepted items include paper, cardboard, metal cans, most plastics numbered 1 and 2, and glass. Contamination can cause loads to be rejected.
Haltom City offers single-stream curbside recycling to residential customers using a 65-gallon blue cart. Collection is every other week on the same day as regular trash. Accepted materials include mixed paper (newspaper, magazines, junk mail, envelopes with windows, office paper, phone books, paperback books), corrugated cardboard flattened and cut to fit inside the cart with the lid closed, chipboard (cereal boxes, shoe boxes), aluminum and steel food and beverage cans, empty aerosol cans, and plastic bottles and jugs marked with resin code 1 (PET) or 2 (HDPE). Glass bottles and jars of any color are accepted but must be rinsed and free of food residue. Items must be empty, clean, and dry. Prohibited materials include plastic bags and film (return to grocery store collection bins), styrofoam, food-soiled paper such as pizza boxes with grease, paper towels or napkins, ceramics, Pyrex or mirrors, light bulbs, batteries, electronics, hoses, chains, textiles, and plastic tubs or clamshells numbered 3 through 7 unless specifically accepted by current program rules. Tanglers such as hoses, wires, and holiday lights jam the sorting equipment and should never go in the recycling cart. Motor oil, paint, and hazardous waste are not accepted curbside. Contaminated loads (those with excessive prohibited items) may be diverted to the landfill rather than the recycling facility, and chronic contamination can result in a cart warning tag and temporary suspension of service. Texas does not have a statewide bottle deposit program or mandatory recycling law; participation in Haltom City is part of the bundled utility service and is strongly encouraged. Residents may drop off additional recyclables, including cardboard, at the Tarrant County Environmental Collection Center in Fort Worth.
