Blue cart recycling in Pittsburg accepts clean paper, cardboard, rigid plastics #1-#5 and #7, aluminum, tin, and glass bottles and jars. Plastic bags, film, polystyrene foam, and food-contaminated items belong in the trash. Recycling participation is required under AB 341 for multifamily and businesses.
Single-stream curbside recycling is collected in the blue cart by Pittsburg Disposal. Accepted materials include clean and dry paper (newspaper, magazines, office paper, junk mail, paperboard), corrugated cardboard (flattened to fit in the cart), rigid plastic containers marked #1, #2, #4, #5, and #7 (bottles, tubs, jugs, cups), aluminum cans and clean foil, steel/tin food cans, and glass bottles and jars. Lids and caps may remain on plastic bottles; metal lids from glass jars should be removed and placed loose in the cart. Items NOT accepted in the blue cart include plastic bags and film (take to grocery store drop-offs), polystyrene foam (#6 / Styrofoam), plastic utensils and straws, food-soiled paper and pizza boxes (those go in the green cart), ceramics, window glass, mirrors, light bulbs, diapers, garden hoses, clothing, and any electronics. Pittsburg businesses and multi-family complexes of five or more units must provide recycling service under AB 341 (Mandatory Commercial Recycling), and organics service is added under AB 1826 and SB 1383. California Redemption Value (CRV) beverage containers retain their refund value even when placed in the blue cart; residents who want the deposit back can take them to a certified CRV recycler. Improperly placed recyclables may trigger contamination fees after repeated warnings.
