Pottstown, PA Trash & Recycling: Recycling Rules (2026)

The Borough enacted its recycling ordinance (Ord. S. ). Section 202 extends the requirement to all territory inside Pottstown Borough's corporate limits and its police jurisdiction, and Section 203 requires any property that cannot use the Borough's collection or recycling service to arrange an approved alternate service and file written proof with the Borough. Recyclable materials are defined in Section 205 to include clear and colored glass, aluminum, steel and bimetallic cans, high-grade office paper, newsprint, corrugated paper, junk mail and other paperboard, and plastics numbered 1 through 7; the list can be changed by Borough Council resolution.

Each residence, church and mixed-use dwelling unit receives a 65-gallon recycling container that remains Borough property and stays at the address through any sale of the home under Section 208(1)(C) and Section 212. Commercial, industrial, institutional and multifamily properties of more than six units follow separate separation duties under Section 208(2) and must file an annual recycling report with the Borough by February 1 covering the type and weight of materials recycled the prior year. Violating any provision of this Part, including refusing to separate recyclables, is punishable under Section 221 by a fine of $50 to $600 plus costs of prosecution, with every day of continued violation counted as a separate offense.
