Carrollton, TX Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Under Code of Ordinances § 50.20, the city "will only collect yard waste that is bagged and placed in an approved residential container or bag placed at the front curb adjacent to the residence of origin for collection or other approved location." Loose, unbagged clippings or brush left in a pile do not meet that standard and will not be picked up. Brush and bulk waste are governed separately under § 50.21: brush must be cut to a length not exceeding four feet, and the total volume placed out cannot exceed three cubic yards (§ 50.21(B)).

Bulk items are likewise capped at three cubic yards (§ 50.21(C)) and must be free of hazards, refrigerator doors removed or secured, and set at least three feet from water and gas meters. Bulk waste is only collected if it was generated by the occupant of the residence, not hauled in from elsewhere. Placement timing is set citywide by § 50.24: residential waste, including bulk and brush, must go out no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the evening before the scheduled day and no later than 6:30 a.m. that day, positioned within three feet of the curb or alley line and clear of mailboxes, trees, meters, parked vehicles, and screening walls, with at least 14 feet of overhead clearance for the collection truck's arm.

Waste placed out in violation of these placement rules simply will not be collected (§ 50.24(E)). Stone, concrete, railroad ties, and motor vehicle tires are barred from residential collection outright under § 50.21(H); concrete or stone can be hauled directly to the landfill by the resident instead. All of these Chapter 50 provisions were adopted under Ordinance 4272 on August 19, 2025.
