Fayetteville, NC Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

J requires Yard Waste, defined elsewhere in Chapter 22 as grass, weeds, leaves, tree trimmings, plants, shrubbery pruning, and small limb waste, to be separated from all other waste and placed within four feet of the curbside for pickup. Collection is provided only to Units approved by the City Manager or designee, and only material customarily and reasonably associated with that unit qualifies; a contractor's or outside party's yard debris is not covered, and vacant lots get no collection at all because that is treated as land clearing.

Grass clippings, small shrubbery trimmings, leaves, and similar small debris must go into plastic bags, an approved can, or a purchased or city-provided rollout cart. Bags must be in good condition and weigh no more than 50 pounds each so one person can lift them; cans must be metal or plastic with tight-fitting lids and strong handles, capped at 32 gallons and 50 pounds. Loose branches and twigs must be tied into bundles no heavier than 50 pounds, no longer or wider than three feet, and no thicker than three inches in diameter.

Each collection day, a property can set out no more than ten rollout carts, bags, and approved cans combined for that week's pickup. Separately, the Parks and Recreation Department runs one free uncontainerized leaf and pine straw collection between November and January by zip code, with additional pickups available for a fee under the Solid Waste Fee Schedule.
