Full Breakdown
010 defines as grass clippings, weeds, hedge and shrubbery trimmings, garden waste, leaves and brush, plus tree or shrub prunings no longer than four feet and no greater than three inches in diameter. To be collected curbside, yard waste must be kept separate from regular trash and recyclable items and placed in recyclable paper bags or open plastic barrels; it cannot be commingled with a trash cart or recycling bin. Collection runs twice per month during April through November only, on a schedule the Department of Public Works establishes; there is no year-round yard waste pickup and none is scheduled for the winter months.
Construction-related tree removal debris does not qualify: only ordinary yard maintenance material is included, and material exceeding the four-foot length or three-inch diameter limit for prunings falls outside the definition and is not eligible for this collection stream. 06, administered by the Department of Inspectional Services.
Violations & Fines
Yard waste commingled with regular trash or recyclable materials, or set out in a container other than a recyclable paper bag or open plastic barrel, is not eligible for the collection described in Section 8.06.060(E) and will not be picked up. Setting out yard waste outside the April-through-November collection window, or outside the twice-monthly schedule set by the Department of Public Works, likewise falls outside the authorized service.
