01 of the Hollywood Code of Ordinances traces to a 1958-era city ordinance and declares the territory within the city's corporate limits a bird sanctuary. The prohibition has two parts. First, it is unlawful for any person to hunt, wound, molest, injure or kill any bird within the city, a blanket protection not limited to species already protected under state or federal law; it covers birds generally. Second, it is separately unlawful to capture any bird within the city for either resale or private use, which reaches conduct like trapping wild birds to sell as pets as well as casual capture for personal keeping.
