Section 4-2 of the Lauderhill Code, titled 'Birds and rodents,' opens with a flat prohibition: no person shall feed or leave foodstuffs for consumption by ducks, pigeons or rodents within the city limits. The provision, adopted by Ordinance No. 265 in 1973, targets the public feeding that draws large concentrations of waterfowl and pigeons into neighborhoods, parks and commercial lots, a practice the city treats as a nuisance and health concern rather than a harmless kindness. The second paragraph addresses ducks, pigeons and rodents kept as pets, requiring that they be adequately caged or otherwise properly kept upon the owner's own premises, and it bars releasing any of these animals into the streets, waterways, or other public or private property beyond the owner's own land.

Because the section sits in Chapter 4, Article I, 'In General,' alongside the horse-keeping and wild-animal provisions, it is enforced the same way as the rest of the animal chapter: the Lauderhill Police Department and Code Enforcement Department serve as the animal control authority, and a violation is prosecuted as a civil infraction citation under Section 4-26, which sets fines of fifty dollars for a first offense, one hundred dollars for a second, and two hundred fifty dollars for a third or later offense, rising to as much as five hundred dollars if a cited resident contests the case in county court.
