LFUCG requires rabies vaccination for cats and authorizes Lexington Animal Care & Control to impound at-large or unvaccinated cats under Chapter 4 of the Code.
Under Chapter 4 of the LFUCG Code, cats four months and older must be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian, with proof maintained by the owner. While Lexington is less restrictive on cats than dogs, cats found at large or causing nuisance may be impounded by LACC. Owners reclaim impounded cats by paying fees and showing rabies proof. Kentucky Revised Statutes (KRS 258) require rabies vaccination statewide. Trap-Neuter-Return programs operate through LACC partnerships with local rescue groups.
Impoundment fees, civil citations for unvaccinated cats, and possible nuisance charges if cats damage neighboring property.
