Grand Prairie Code Chapter 5 (Animal Services), Article III, Section 5-26 regulates livestock and fowl keeping. Fowl: unlawful to keep in any pen, coop, or enclosure less than 150 feet from any residence, business, school, hospital, or nursing home (other than owner's), and must have at least 20 square feet per fowl. Roosters must comply with Section 5-26 noise provisions. Livestock: unlawful to keep less than 100 feet from any residence, business, school, hospital (other than owner's), and must have at least 5,000 square feet per animal. Swine are prohibited within the city, except up to 2 potbellied pigs per location with specific keeping standards. Section 5-29 requires sanitary conditions β manure removed daily, pens kept free of odors and flies. The city also offers a Livestock Exemption Permit / Urban Hen Guidelines program.
