Summary

Nampa allows up to 10 pet chickens (no roosters) on single-family lots in residential zones, capped at three animal types combined, with coops set back at least five feet from property lines.

Chickens (No Roosters), pigeons, or doves 10 ... In no case, however, shall a property owner care and keep a combination of more than three of the above animal types. In other words, a property owner might have ten chickens, four rabbits, and one miniature horse—besides any pet dogs/potbellied pigs they might choose to keep.

Nampa City Code § 10-21-3 lets residents keep agricultural animals as pets, including up to 10 chickens, but no roosters, on single-family lots in the RA, RS, RD, RML, RMH and RP residential zones, in addition to any dogs or potbellied pigs. A household may combine no more than three of the listed animal types (chickens, ducks, rabbits, miniature horses/pygmy goats, potbellied pigs) at once. Chicken and other small-animal housing must sit at least five feet from any property line and stay out of the front yard, and manure must be removed regularly to prevent odor and flies. Larger-scale agricultural animal keeping (non-pet) is a separate, stricter provision requiring a 30,000-square-foot lot.

Code enforcement (planning division) cites nuisance conditions, excessive noise, roosters, unhealthy manure buildup, or animals running at large citywide, and can require abatement or removal of noncompliant animals.
