Nampa residents may keep up to 10 hens (no roosters) as pets in residential zones. Roosters are barred as a nuisance fowl. Coops and runs must sit at least 5 feet from property lines and out of the front-yard setback. Full agricultural livestock face larger setbacks: 30 feet from property lines and 50 feet from homes.
The keeping of chickens and livestock is set out in Nampa City Code Title 10, Chapter 21 (Animal Zoning Regulations). Section 10-21-3 allows certain 'agricultural animals as pets' on single-family residential properties in the RA, RS, RD, RML, RMH, and RP zones. The per-lot maximums (offspring under 9 months don't count) include up to 10 chickens (no roosters), 3 ducks or other small fowl, 1 miniature horse/pygmy goat, 2 potbellied pigs, and 4 rabbits or similar, but no more than three of these animal types combined. Roosters are expressly excluded (10-21-3.A) as fowl whose calls qualify as a nuisance; the City of Nampa likewise confirms 'up to 10 hens' with 'roosters not allowed.' Under 10-21-3.G, buildings, runs, pens, and enclosures (not perimeter fencing) housing chickens, ducks, or rabbits must be set back at least 5 feet from any property line and may not sit in a required front-yard setback. Larger agricultural operations under 10-21-2 face stricter setbacks: enclosures must be at least 30 feet from property lines and 50 feet from residential structures. Manure must be disposed of to prevent odors and flies, and no agricultural animal may run at large in the city (10-21-3.I).
Keeping a rooster, exceeding 10 hens, placing a coop closer than 5 feet to a property line, or keeping animals in unlisted zones violates Chapter 21. Letting an agricultural animal run at large is prohibited (10-21-3.I).
