Carrollton, TX Animal Ordinances: Coyote Management (2026)

City Code Chapter 91, Subchapter II, addresses coyotes through two separate bans rather than a hazing or cull program. 011(D) makes it unlawful to feed wild animals "in any method, excluding fowl," and the preceding subsection (C) bars feeding any animal on property other than the owner's, requiring rodent-resistant containers. 003 defines "wild animal" to expressly include coyotes among the mammals covered (alongside wolves, foxes, bobcats and raccoons), because of their "vicious nature" or potential to endanger people, property or domestic animals. 055(A) then makes it unlawful to keep or display a wild animal, including as a pet, within city limits, with an exception only for zoos, performing-animal exhibitions and circuses.

055(C)-(D) authorizes the DCO or an Animal Services Officer to impound it and, at their discretion, humanely euthanize it if it is sick, endangers other animals or people, is suspected of rabies, or shows a disposition to bite or attack. 068. 014 requires DCO written permission before setting any trap on public property and daily trap checks, and leg-hold traps and snares are banned outright except commercially available rodent/insect traps.
