Babylon Town Code Chapter 79 requires all dogs off the owner's premises to be on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Violations bring fines up to 250 dollars for first offense.
The Town enforces leash rules on all public property including town parks, beaches, and sidewalks. Cedar Beach, Overlook Beach, and Town pools prohibit dogs entirely during beach season (Memorial Day to Labor Day). Off-leash is only allowed at designated dog parks such as the Babylon Dog Park in West Babylon. NY Agriculture and Markets Law Article 7 also requires dog licensing for all dogs over 4 months.
First offense up to 250 dollars, second up to 500 dollars, third up to 1,000 dollars and possible impoundment.
