Buckeye City Code section 6-1-11 prohibits dogs from running at large on public or private property. A dog is not 'at large' if confined to the owner's property or restrained by a leash, chain, rope, or cord no more than six feet long and under the responsible party's direct control. Licensing follows A.R.S. 11-1008/11-1010.
Buckeye's leash rule is City Code section 6-1-11 (Dogs Not Permitted at Large; Wearing License) in Chapter 6. Subsection A states: 'No dog(s) shall be permitted to run at large on public or private property.' Chapter 6 defines 'at large' as 'on or off premises of owner and not under control of owner or a responsible party,' and clarifies that a dog is not at large if it is confined in a suitable enclosure, confined entirely to the responsible party's property, or 'restrained by a leash, chain, rope, or cord of not more than six (6) feet in length and of sufficient strength to control action of such dog and directly under the control of the responsible party.' The chapter also addresses licensing: dogs three months or older running at large must wear a valid license tag, and licensing/rabies vaccination requirements follow A.R.S. sections 11-1008 and 11-1010. Field enforcement and impoundment in Buckeye are coordinated with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control. The code does not name a specific off-leash dog park; dogs must be leashed in public unless within a posted, designated off-leash area.
Violations are subject to the civil and criminal penalties in Article 1-7 of the city code, plus possible impoundment of an at-large animal by the enforcement agent. Unlicensed dogs may incur county licensing penalties under A.R.S. 11-1008/11-1010.
