Jackson requires dogs to be on a leash or under direct physical control when off the owner's property under local animal control ordinances. MS Code Ann. Β§21-19-9 authorizes municipalities to regulate animals. Leashes must generally be no longer than 6 feet in public areas. Dogs running at large may be impounded by Jackson animal control. Rabies vaccination is required under MS Code Ann. Β§41-53-1 et seq., and current tags must be displayed. Tethering regulations may limit chain or rope restraints to certain hours and require adequate shelter and water. Mississippi requires dogs to be licensed or registered in most municipalities. Dangerous dogs are subject to additional restrictions under local vicious animal ordinances. Off-leash areas may be designated in select parks.
