Albuquerque defines exotic or wild animals as species native or non-native to NM that are poisonous or present a danger to humans, animals, or the environment. This includes venomous reptiles, boas, pythons, alligators, crocodiles, and certain birds of prey. A permit is required to receive, purchase, own, or keep any exotic or wild animal. Anyone possessing 15 or more permissible exotic or wild animals must obtain an Exotic or Wild Animal Collection Permit (EWACP). No exotic animal may be released from captivity within city limits without written permission from the Mayor's designee. Federal and state wildlife laws also apply.
