Bostonia is governed by San Diego County Code section 62.681, which makes it unlawful to own, possess, or maintain any venomous reptile except under limited exceptions, and requires the owner of any wild animal to keep it in a cage or enclosure designed and maintained to prevent escape. Separately, California Fish & Game Code and Title 14 regulations ban private possession of many 'restricted' species (big cats, bears, primates, most non-native wildlife) without a state permit. Common domestic exotics that are legal statewide, such as certain reptiles and birds, remain allowed.
