Rapides Parish, LA Building Safety: Building Permits (2026)

Section 6½-10 adopts the Kisatchie-Delta Regional Code Compliance Office's administrative manual for the unincorporated parish, and § 105.1 requires any owner or authorized agent to obtain a permit before constructing, enlarging, altering, repairing, moving, demolishing or changing the occupancy of a building or structure, or before installing, altering or replacing an electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system regulated by the code; the section specifically adds that permits are required for repairs to storm or disaster-damaged structures. Applications must be filed in writing on the parish's form, describing the work, the land by legal description or address, the intended use and occupancy, the estimated valuation of the work, and the applicant's signature, under § 105.3.

The building official examines the application within a reasonable time and rejects it in writing with stated reasons if it fails to conform, or issues the permit as soon as practicable if it does, under § 105.3.1. An application lapses 180 days after filing unless pursued in good faith or a permit issues, and an issued permit itself becomes invalid if work has not started within 180 days or is not completed within two years, though the building official may grant 180-day extensions for justified cause under §§ 105.3.2 and 105.5.

The permit or a copy must stay on site, visible from the road or nearest public property, until the project is done, per § 105.7. Fees are set by the Kisatchie Delta Code Compliance Office's schedule under § 108.2, and starting work before a permit issues doubles the required fee under § 108.3.
