Terrebonne Parish, LA Building Safety: Building Permits (2026)

1 of the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Building Code, adopted by Ordinance No. 7924 in Chapter 6, Appendix A, requires a permit before nearly any building work begins. Any owner or authorized agent must first apply to the jurisdiction and obtain a permit before constructing, enlarging, altering, repairing, moving, demolishing or changing the occupancy of a building or structure, or before erecting, installing, enlarging, repairing, removing, converting or replacing any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system regulated by the code. Fees are set under Section 109 and vary by permit type: new residential construction runs 45 cents per square foot with a $200 minimum, commercial and institutional work runs $3 per $1,000 of contract value or 60 cents per square foot, and trade permits such as plumbing, gas, electrical or mechanical each carry a $125 minimum that includes one inspection.

The Building Official, appointed by the Parish President and confirmed by the Parish Council, administers permitting and enforcement under §§ 103 and 104.
