Hendersonville, TN Building Safety: Childcare Center Rules (2026)

Chapter 10.3.4 of Hendersonville's Zoning Ordinance sets the standard for day care centers, adult and child. Every center must meet all federal, state, and local requirements, including licensing, health, safety, and building code requirements, before operating. The ordinance further requires adequate sidewalks and exterior lighting on site, caps traffic and noise generation at non-excessive levels, and requires adequate open space and recreational area for occupants. A day care home serving five to twelve children or adults in a residential district needs a Conditional Use Permit from the Board of Zoning Appeals; homes with four or fewer children fall outside that use classification.
