The deadbolt must contain hardened inserts or their equivalent to resist cutting-tool attack, be key-operated from the exterior, and disengage from the interior without a key, tool, or excessive force. 093 extends the deadbolt requirement to the inactive leaf of a pair of doors and the upper leaf of Dutch doors. 096 requires cylinder guards on any deadbolt cylinder that projects beyond the door face or is otherwise reachable by attack tools. 152. 091.
