Freehold Township, NJ Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Electrical work in Freehold Township is permitted and inspected by the Electrical Subcode Official, one of the four subcode positions Chapter 115's Construction Division comprises alongside the Construction Official, Building Subcode Official, Plumbing Subcode Official and Fire Protection Subcode Official. The fee table for that work sits in § 150-62(C), last amended May 24, 2022 by Ord. No. O-22-7. The base fee covers one to 50 receptacles or fixtures at $75, with an additional $25 for each 25 receptacles or fixtures beyond that, and the ordinance defines receptacles and fixtures broadly to include lighting outlets, wall switches, fluorescent fixtures, convenience receptacles or similar fixtures, and motors or devices of less than one horsepower or one kilowatt.

Larger equipment is billed separately: motors, transformers or generators between one and 10 horsepower or kilowatts cost $25 each. The schedule also prices out specific categories most homeowners will encounter during renovations: communication points ($65 for the first 25, $25 per additional 10) and alarm devices at a comparable tier structure. C. 20, plus a 25% municipal processing fee on top. As with all Chapter 115 permits, the Construction Official issues the permit only after § 115-5's fee is paid, and the technical wiring standards themselves come from the state electrical subcode, not from Freehold Township's own text.
