La Grange, MO Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 515.010 of the La Grange City Code adopts a single, direct standard for electrical work: every installation of wiring, apparatus or appliances in the city must follow the 2002 National Electrical Code as approved by the National Fire Protection Association. The chapter does not set out a separate permitting procedure of its own; instead, electrical work is folded into the general building permit process in Chapter 500, whose Section 500.020 exempts only minor changes or repairs to electrical wiring or equipment costing $1,000 or less from the permit requirement, while everything above that threshold, or involving new wiring in new or altered structures, needs a permit submitted to the City Council along with plans and a statement of materials.

Enforcement of Section 515.010 runs through Section 515.020, the chapter's penalty clause, which applies whenever the code prohibits an act or requires one and no more specific penalty is listed elsewhere. That clause also extends liability to anyone who causes, aids or abets a violation, and it deems any condition that persists in violation of the electrical code a public nuisance that the City may abate, with each additional day counted as a new, separate offense.
