Lakewood, NJ Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Township of Lakewood Code § 12-2.1c sets the Electrical Subcode fee schedule administered by the Division of Construction Code Enforcement. The minimum Electrical Subcode fee is $65.00, which covers the first 25 fixtures or receptacles, defined broadly to include lighting outlets, wall switches, electrical discharge fixtures, convenience receptacles, and motors or devices under one horsepower or one kilowatt, plus burglar, fire and communication devices; each additional fixture beyond 25 adds $10.00. Motors and electrical devices are billed per unit on a sliding scale from $15.00 (1 to 10 horsepower) up to $450.00 for anything over 1,000 horsepower, and transformers and generators follow a parallel scale from $15.00 (1 to 10 kilowatts) to $200.00 above 112.5 kilowatts.

Service panels, service entrances or subpanels are charged $50.00 for 1 to 225 amperes, rising to $450.00 for installations exceeding 1,000 amperes. The code directs that, for computing these fees, all motors except those built into plug-in appliances must be counted, along with control equipment, generators, transformers and other current-consuming or current-generating devices. A lapsed electrical permit can be reinstated for a flat $50.00, meter resets are priced by service size, and a real estate resale inspection carries a separate $20.00 fee. These fees are paid before the permit issues, consistent with the overall construction permit fee rule in § 12-2.1.
