Lakewood Chapter BH16 (Noise Regulations) prohibits excessive, unnecessary, or unusually loud noise detrimental to public health and comfort. Special permits limit sound to 60 dBA. Holiday exemptions extend permitted noise hours to 7 AM β 2 AM the following day.
Chapter BH16 declares that excessive, unnecessary, or unusually loud noise is detrimental to public health, comfort, convenience, safety, and welfare. The ordinance is enforced by law enforcement personnel including Police Officers, Special Officers, and Code Enforcement Officers. Special permits for outdoor events (civic associations, clubs, organized groups) may be issued by the Township Committee or Board of Education, but sound may not exceed 60 decibels in any event. On certain listed holidays, noise restrictions are relaxed from 7:00 AM to 2:00 AM the following day. The NJ statewide noise code (N.J.A.C. 7:29) also applies with 65 dBA daytime and 50 dBA nighttime limits at residential property lines.
