Lakewood, NJ Parking Rules: RV & Boat Parking (2026)

Lakewood Township's zoning code addresses recreational vehicles and boats through a use restriction rather than a location or screening rule. UDO § 18-907, Prohibited Uses, adopted by Ord. No. 2006-31 § 2, states flatly that no single recreational vehicle or boat may be used for living or housekeeping purposes anywhere in the township. The code does not set a size cap, a number-of-vehicles limit, a driveway-only rule, or a screening requirement for merely parking or storing an RV or boat on a residential lot; the prohibition targets occupancy, not location.

The one carve-out is cross-referenced in the same sentence: UDO § 18-909, Temporary Structures for Residents of Single-Family Homes, lets a resident whose primary dwelling was destroyed by a natural disaster or catastrophic accident apply to the Zoning Officer within 30 days for a permit to place a temporary residential trailer on the lot while it is repaired or replaced. A. 52:27D-121, sit at least 20 feet from the front lot line, five feet from each side line and 15 feet from the rear line, and it cannot be occupied until the Township Construction Code Official inspects and approves it.

Authorization runs up to six months, extendable month-to-month at the Zoning Officer's discretion, but never beyond 12 months total, and the Construction Code Official can recommend revocation if an unsafe or unhealthy condition develops. Outside that disaster-relief window, sleeping, cooking, or otherwise housekeeping in a parked RV or boat anywhere in Lakewood Township violates § 18-907A1 regardless of the zoning district.
