Santee, CA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 11.08.010 adopts and incorporates by reference the 2025 California Electrical Code, Part 3, Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations, a portion of the California Building Standards Code based on the National Electrical Code, 2023 edition, as the City Electrical Code. The section states the code's purpose is to prescribe regulations for the installation, alteration or repair of electrical systems and their permit requirements and inspection, meaning the state-adopted code, not a separate City electrical chapter, sets when an electrical permit is required and what inspections apply.

Except as otherwise provided by Chapter 11.08 itself and by Chapter 11.02 (the California Administrative Code adopted without change), all electrical installation, alteration or repair work within the City of Santee must conform to the 2025 California Electrical Code as published by the California Building Standards Commission. Chapter 11.08 was readopted by Ordinance No. 629 on December 10, 2025, which also repealed the prior adoption ordinance, Ordinance No. 605, keeping Santee's electrical standards current with the 2025 triennial code cycle. Because Chapter 11.08 carries no separate local amendment section (unlike the Building and Residential Code chapters, which add local permit-exemption and penalty amendments), electrical permit fees, violation penalties and appeals for electrical work in Santee are governed by the general provisions the Building Code chapter establishes under Sections 109 and 114.4, applied here through the adopted electrical code's own permit and inspection requirements.
