The city adopts the National Electrical Code "in full by reference" as its Electrical Code, and that adoption tracks the State of Colorado's version automatically, so the city's edition updates the moment the state amends the NEC (Section 10-162). Anyone performing electrical work as a business must be licensed: Section 10-118's contractor classification table lists "Electrical registration" as a Class D category that requires a valid State of Colorado Electrical Contractor and Master Electrician License before the city will register the contractor. Because the state already licenses electricians, Section 10-117(b) exempts electrical contractors licensed by the state from the separate exam-based city contractor license required of general, building and other trade contractors; they still must register with the Building Department.

License and registration fees are set by city council resolution (Section 10-119), each license expires one year from issuance, and a license not renewed within one year of expiration lapses permanently, forcing a new application (Section 10-120). Licensees must obtain a building permit whenever one is required, construct without deviating from approved plans, obtain required inspections, and provide honest information on permit applications (Section 10-121). The building official can suspend or revoke a contractor's license for violating the Building Code, with written notice at least seven days before the suspension takes effect and the right to request a hearing before the building code advisory board (Section 10-123).
