Section 16-5.09.020 of the Municipal Code adopts the 2025 Edition of the California Electrical Code, known as the California Code of Regulations, Title 24, Part 3, incorporating by reference the 2023 National Electrical Code published by the National Fire Protection Association with California amendments, as the City's electrical code, with a true copy kept on file in the Building Department for public inspection. That adoption is what makes an electrical permit mandatory for covered work, since Article 9 operates under the same Administrative Building Code permit framework set out in Article 1.

Section 16-5.09.030 sets electrical permit fees in accordance with the adopted fee schedule, meaning the City Council's current fee resolution rather than a dollar figure fixed in the ordinance text. Because Article 9 has no separate permit-procedure sections of its own, an electrical permit application expires after 180 days without issuance under Section 16-5.01.100, and an issued electrical permit expires after twelve months of no completed work or no requested inspection under Section 16-5.01.110; resuming after a lapse of less than a year costs half the original permit fee, while a lapse over a year requires a full new permit and fee.
