Monterey, CA Building Safety: Green Building Code (2026)

1 adopts the 2025 California Green Building Standards Code (CALGreen) as one of the 'technical codes' the city enforces, alongside the 2025 California Building, Residential, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy and Wildland-Urban Interface Codes. Because CALGreen is adopted by reference rather than reprinted locally, its mandatory measures, covering construction waste diversion, water-efficient fixtures, moisture control and commissioning for larger buildings, apply directly to permitted work in Monterey exactly as the state has written them, unless the City Council has adopted a specific local amendment elsewhere in Chapter 9.

Plan check for CALGreen compliance is handled by the same Chief of Inspection Services/Building Official who reviews the rest of a building permit application, and CALGreen documentation is submitted with the building permit package rather than through a separate process or fee track. 2. 06, subject to the City's Administrative Remedies Ordinance, and actionable as a public nuisance, with each day of noncompliance a separate offense under § 9-66.
