The Fire Permit is obtained in person at the Central Fire Station, 1401 Caldwell, during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The applicant must provide the contractor's name, contact information, license number and proof of insurance, and the permit is valid only for the specific job address being inspected. The requirement, approved by Ordinance No. O-12-78, took effect January 1, 2013. Section 2.60.08 lists the inspections that must be completed before a Certificate of Occupancy is issued: a Rough Fire Sprinkler System Inspection scheduled by the sprinkler contractor, who must verify piping type, hanger spacing, sprinkler clearances and Fire Department Connection placement (within 100 feet of a hydrant, wall-mount FDC between 24 and 48 inches above grade); a Rough Fire Alarm Inspection checking wiring against NFPA 72 and the National Electrical Code, with duct detectors required for units exceeding 2,000 cfm; a Final Fire Sprinkler System Inspection requiring a hydrostatic test of all piping at 200 psi for two hours witnessed by a fire department official, with tenant-improvement work affecting more than 20 sprinklers isolated and retested (20 or fewer is exempt from retesting); a Final Fire Alarm Inspection confirming signals reach the panel, annunciator and the off-site monitoring company and Conway Emergency Operations Center; a Kitchen Hood Extinguishing System Inspection; and a Final Fire Building and Site Inspection covering fire lane marking, gate access controls and Knox Box placement.
