Tinley Park, IL Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

07(A)(1) of the Building Code folds the Illinois State Plumbing Code (2014) into Tinley Park's local rules, applying it to the installation, alteration, repair and replacement of plumbing systems and all connected equipment, appliances, fixtures and fittings tied to a water or sewage system, plus every aspect of medical gas piping. 01(A), which lists the Illinois State Plumbing Code (2014) among the codes incorporated as the Building Code of the Village of Tinley Park, Cook and Will Counties. Because plumbing work falls under the general permit rule in Section 101, a plumbing permit application goes to the Building Official on village forms, describing the work and the property, and is subject to the same fee schedule, survey requirement and expiration periods (180 days for one- and two-family work, one year for other buildings) as any other building permit.

The Code separately empowers the Plumbing Inspector to enforce the permit requirement directly: no registered plumbing contractor may perform work in a building or structure requiring a permit until that permit is secured, and if work begins without one, or in violation of the plumbing regulations, the Plumbing Inspector can order an immediate stop to the job and direct everyone on site to cease work until a proper permit is obtained. This stop-work authority runs alongside the Building Official's separate power to issue a written stop-work order for the whole project.
